Who Am I?

My name is Angela White. I fell into hypnotherapy by chance . I had enrolled on a course to study Psychotherapy and Counselling and was introduced to hypnotherapy which was being taught as part of the course. I became so inspired that I decided to pursue it as a career. I later achieved a Diploma in Hypnotherapy and am now a registered member of The Hypnotherapy Society. I am insured to practice and follow the Code of Practice and Ethics as set down by The Hypnotherapy Society.
I have a 25 year history in sports and have competed in Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Boxing and Rockclimbing. I have competed as a professional, done stuntwork for TV and also appeared in documentaries representing the sports of rock-climbing and boxing. From these sports I developed a genuine interest in fear as I often found myself in fearful situations, such as being on a rock face, running out of stength, knowing that any moment I might fall off because I just couldn't hang on any more. Other stresses I encountered were coping with pressure of competition, keeping self-motivation high when the odds were stacked against me, not to be distracted by thoughts of self-doubt, low confidence or esteem issues.
I once found myself in a life-threatening situation perched high up on a rock face on a sea cliff in North Devon. This event changed my life and from it grew genuine interest in fear and our how it affected our flight/ fight responses. The fight or flight mechanism is also stimulated by stress. Stress can be categorized into external influences for example society pressures, dealing with an angry boss, moving house, coping with a heavy work-load. Stress is also stimulated by internal influences such as self-defeating thought processes, self-doubt, how we percieve ourselves in a situation which greatly affects how one would react to it. Inability to deal with stress can promote anxiety, depression and a multitude of health issues. How did I cope with the stress and fears I faced on my climbing epic. For those interested read on....
